“Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light.”
– Helen Keller
I hosted a dinner party last night for two friends without whom I couldn’t have gotten through this past month. They’ve been very supportive during one of the most trying periods in my life. They’ve watched me cry (I hate crying in front of people!), gave me hugs, let me vent and have just been my rocks through a lot of ups and downs. I am so grateful to have them both in my life.
Throughout the years, I’ve had a track record of making friends with people who just weren’t right for me. With age and experience, I am realizing just how important it is to surround yourself with positive people who truly add value to your life. The people with whom you can connect with on a much deeper level and who won’t judge you for being yourself.
It’s so easy to take things and people for granted. We get so accustomed to having them in our lives that sometimes we really need to just take a moment and show them just how much they mean to us.
