“It is our choices… that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.”
– J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Life is all about choices. Not a day goes by where you don’t have to make a choice – whether it is as simple as choosing what to wear in the morning or as complex as deciding whether you should stay in a dead-end job.
Does every choice really reflect who you are? If you are in a dead-end job, some people may label you as someone with no ambition, but what if you are only in that position because you need to make ends meet to support your family?
Today I had a long debate with my friend about whether life is pre-destined or whether it is determined by the choices we make. Does it have to be one or the other? Is it possible to believe that you are in control of your own destiny but also believe that sometimes things happen for a reason? He doesn’t think so. But, is it really as black and white as he thinks?
