Day 162: A warm bubble bath & sleep

Have you ever felt so physically, emotionally, and mentally drained that all you wanted to do was leave work early and sleep? Sometimes the routine, long commutes and lack of sleep catch up to me and my body just feels like shutting down from exhaustion. Today was one of those days.

As soon as I got home and ate dinner, I was out like a light. My friend keeps telling me I need to listen to my body and take care of myself. I should really listen to him. It really isn’t a good idea to let yourself become so exhausted to the point where your body crashes from stress and fatigue. I take care of myself in all the usual ways – eating healthy and exercising – but sometimes I work myself too hard and need to remember to slow down and let my body rest.

Lately, I started taking warm bubble baths in the hopes of de-stressing. Soaking in the tub is a great way for the muscles to relax but also the mind. I carry a lot of tension in my muscles from my intense workouts and it really helps loosen them up. I also find it very calming and feel much more at ease after a long soak. The peace and quiet present the perfect opportunity to reflect and focus the mind on the present and let go of any worries. If you haven’t tried taking warm baths, you really should. You’re missing out.

Sleep is also very important and I clearly don’t have enough of it. I’ve always been a bad sleeper but I’m trying to change that. I often rely on shows or books to help me fall asleep but I just end up staying awake much later than I intended. I’m going to trade in the laptop, phone and books for meditative breathing techniques. I’ll have to let you know how that goes. Good night 😉
